Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development Dr Ali Haidar, who is on an official visit has decided to cut his trip short and return to the country following the fire incident in the building where the ministry is located.

The building accommodates offices the Housing Ministry, Environment Ministry, Construction and Infrastructure Ministry, and Male' City Council.
MNDF Fire and Rescue are on the scene working to contain the blaze which spread rapidly throughout the building.
Housing Ministry in press release said that documents related to its housing schemes, including the Binveriyaa housing scheme, are digitally maintained in cloud storage and remain unaffected by the fire.
"We are consulting with relevant authorities on measures to ensure safety and security moving forward," the statement said.
