The total number of tourists that have arrived in Maldives in 2023 so far has reached over 900,000.
According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives has experienced a 14 percent increase in tourist arrivals this year compared to the same period last year. This equates to an additional 110,000 tourists visiting the country.
Based on current trends, it is estimated that Maldives will receive one million tourist arrivals next month. This marks a similar milestone as Maldives welcomed one million tourists in August during the previous year.
The number of tourist arrivals in the Maldives observed a significant increase during the first four months of 2023. In the first two months alone, there was nearly a 20-30 percent growth in tourist arrivals compared to the previous year.
However, tourist arrivals have been declining since last month.
India and Russia have emerged as the top sources of tourist arrivals in the Maldives this year, with over 100,000 tourist arrivals from each country. The UK had the the third highest number of tourist arrivals at 76,000.

The government has set a target of attracting 1.8 million tourists this year. According to the current data it is likely that the Maldives will surpass its arrivals target for the year.
