According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, India and Russia make up 24 percent of the total tourist arrivals in the Maldives. This year, the Maldives has welcomed 100,900 tourists from India and 100,200 tourists from Russia.
While the Maldives received 850,000 tourists in 2023, it was observed that 65 percent of visitors arrived from ten specific countries.
In addition to India and Russia, a total of 75,000 tourists arrived from the UK, followed by Germany and Italy with over 60,000 tourist arrivals each, while China accounted for over 50,000 visitors.
Although Russian arrivals dominated the first quarter of the year, India has now surpassed Russia and taken the lead in terms of arrival numbers to the Maldives.
The number of tourist arrivals in the Maldives so far this year has increased by 14 percent compared to 2022.
On average, the Maldives attracts 5,200 tourists per day. However, the current month has observed a slightly lower average of 3,700 tourist arrivals.
The Maldives has developed a total of 60,000 beds and has set an ambitious target of welcoming 1.8 million tourists to the country this year.
