Nazim said that an additional MVR 30 million is needed to complete the project, but there are no means of securing this financing.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Dhiggaru constituencey Ahmed Nazim has stated today that an additional MVR 30 million is needed for the completion of the 4000 flats that the previous administration started constructing in Hulhumale' Phase 2.
In the budget debate ongoing in today's parliament sitting, Nazim said that the previous administration led by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had conducted housing projects without proper planning.
He said that the construction of the 4000 flats being built by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) had not been contracted in a manner that allowed for their completion.
Nazim said that an additional MVR 30 million is needed to complete the project, but there are no means of securing this financing.
"There is no money for electrical wiring in the building, no money for water piping. No security is included. The government can decide even today who will be given flats there. But there is no way to move there yet. There is still no way to source that financing," Nazim said.
Nazim said that 2000 of those flats were to be built through 85 percent funds from India's EXIM Bank and 15 percent from the government of Maldives. However, these funds are still not paid, he said.
"This is the way housing is now. The previous government did nothing in a way that is effective or makes sense," he said.
