Anti Corruption Commission has gone the offices of the Maldives Media Council in their investigation into the granting of the Audio/Video Award in this year's Journalism Awards to Adhadhu Online's documentary 'Skeelan', as the Judges of the Awards have claimed it was given against policies.

Anti Corruption Commission said today that they have received a complaint that there was abuse of position involved in awarding the prize. Hence, their investigative officers are active in MMC's offices to gather necessary information.

The contested documentary 'Skeelan' centers around President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's Sri Lankan stepmother, who made strong allegations against him. At the time the documentary was first aired during the presidential elections, the President had dismissed the accusations made against him.

The panel of judges for the Journalism Awards have since said that the prize had been awarded to 'Skeelan' against principles and policies.

oThe panel of judges noted seven specific points in a press statement they issuedcumentary. As such, they said that the documentary contravenes the acceptable disciplinary standards of local media, and MMC had issued a press release calling to cease airing it on September 28, 2023.

The fact that it had been included in nominations for the award despite this raises questions regarding the intentions of those who had accepted it.
