President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday evening, December 24, announced the state's decision to make three construction sector jobs exclusive for Maldivians.

The decision aligns with the current administration's policy on allocating areas in the Maldives construction industry specific only for locals.

President Muizzu made these remarks at the Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MACI) Builders Awards 2023 held at JEN Maldives Malé by Shangri-La. At the ceremony, President Muizzu highlighted the recent cabinet discussions to allocate some of the construction industry jobs specific for Maldivians.

The President assured that three construction sector jobs would be opened exclusively for locals in the upcoming two years.

"The jobs include build inspectors, site supervisors and surveyors. God willing, these three areas would be specifically opened for Maldivians only in the future," President said.

He reasoned that the decision was motivated to allow Maldivians to gain a stronger involvement and control of the construction sector.

While highlighting the construction industry as the second largest economic sector in the Maldives, President Muizzu said that industry-related employment such as civil engineering and architecture would be filled only by Maldivian professionals in the future.

"In our 20-year master plan, our vision is to make the entire industry run by Maldivian citizens," President Muizzu said.
