Sareer to be appointed as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated former Foreign Secretary Ahmed Sareer to parliament to be appointed as the new Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated former Foreign Secretary Ahmed Sareer to parliament to be appointed as the new Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

Parliament has today forwarded his name to the Foreign Services Committee for review.

Sareer has been serving in the post of Ambassador at Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior to that, he was stationed in Saudi Arabia as Asia Director for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and returned to Maldives at the end of his term.

In former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, Sareer was appointed Foreign Secretary. Before this, he was the Permanent Representative of Maldives to the UN from December 10, 2012.

At the time, he also filled the post of Maldives Ambassador to the US.

Sareer has been working in foreign diplomacy since 1986, having filled various positions at a number of diplomatic missions since then.

Some of the posts he has served in include High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Third Secretary at Maldives High Commission in Sri Lanka and Second Secretary at the Maldives Permanent Mission to the UN.

He also wored as Assistant Under Secretary, Assistant Director, Foreign Relations, Deputy Director, Director, Assistant Director General and Director General at Foreign Ministry.

The Parliament has previously approved Thoha Mohamed for the post of Maldives Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, but he later took up the position of Maldives Ambassador to Pakistan.
