Abdul Latheef Hussain, also known as Athama Abdul Latheef, passed away today at the age of 94 while undergoing treatment at ADK Hospital. He was a prominent businessman and a significant figure in the Maldives, known for his extensive contributions to the country's economic development and charitable activities.

President Mohamed Muizzu expressed his condolences on social media X, highlighting Athama Abdul Latheef's remarkable efforts in developing Maldivian business over a long period and his contributions to the community, including the construction of a mosque and organizing Hajj pilgrimages for many Maldivians through the Athama Hajj Group. The President also noted that Athama Abdul Latheef's courage and determination proved that locals could achieve great things independently.

In recognition of his outstanding community service, Athama Abdul Latheef was awarded the Special Award for Service to the Community in 1991. The President acknowledged that his passing is a significant loss for the nation and prayed for patience for his grieving family.
