Maldives Immigration has taken 22 expatriates working illegally in Hulhumale' into detention.

Immigration said that in response to concerns raised on social media about activities going on in a three storey building in Hulhumale', Immigration had conducted a search at the premises on Saturday night.

They revealed that expatriates in the premises were preparing and selling food illegally.

Immigration has recently been conducting special operations to identify and detain expatriates living and working illegally in the Maldives. Under these efforts, 16 persons were detained on Thursday after conducting a raid on four different places.

Under this operation, about 130 expatriates have been detained so far.

Immigration has decided that all these persons will be deported. Until deportation, they will remain in Immigration custody.
