Criminal Court delivered its verdict yesterday, sentencing Hassan Looth from Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo and Hassan Rasheed from Hulhumale' to life imprisonment.
A third suspect, Ismail Shareef from Thaa Thimarafushi, was also charged in the case but was acquitted.
The prosecution charged the three men following a tip-off that led to a search of a residence where they were allegedly dealing drugs. The search, conducted in their presence, resulted in the discovery of 265 grams of cannabis.
All three were charged with drug trafficking, but the court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove Ismail Shareef’s knowledge of the drugs found in the house.
