The Ministry of Education has decided to allocate the Center for Higher Education's (CHSE) former building to Aminiya School.

A ministry official informed Mihaaru News that this decision was made because Aminiya School transitioned to teaching in a single session. Maldivian schools have frequently utilized the same building for both morning and afternoon sessions due to space constraints.

The Ministry stated that the CHSE building will undergo renovation and be handed over to Aminiya School by January of next year. This transition aligns with the school's shift to single-session mode, scheduled to begin with the start of the second academic term.

The student population at Aminiya School has been increasing year on year. To address the space constraints, the older classrooms were demolished to construct a new building capable of accommodating the growing number of students. The eight-storey building became operational in 2018.

Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali had previously stated that efforts were underway to transform the city's three largest schools, including Aminiya, into single-session schools.

In response to a question raised by a member of parliament, the minister confirmed that there were plans to shift Majeedhiya School, Iskandhar School, and Aminiya School to single-session.

"There is a plan to convert Majeedhiya, Iskandharu, and Ameeniya into single-session schools. A new building has been constructed in Hulhumalé for CHSE. Shifting to Hulhumalé will enable the schools in Malé City to transition to single sessions. We have plans in that direction," she said.
