Police have said today that their investigations have revealed that prison officers at Maafushi Prison have colluded with prisoners to run major scams and steal large amounts of money.

Inspector of Police Adam Naweed of the Police's Anti Scam Department said in a press conference today that they are in possession of evidence that shows the involvement of Maafushi Prison in many major scams.

Police today revealed details of two major scams that were committed recently. One is the theft of MVR 1.9 million from the account of a private business and theft of MVR 500,000 from the account of an organization.

Anti Scam Department's Head Inspector of Police Mariyam Rasheedha revealed that investigations show that prison officers were involved in running both of these scams.
