Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel has stated that the 'India Out' campaign had been led by former President Abdulla Yameen, and stated that this government opposes it.

In an interview with India's Wion News, Khaleel said that Yameen, who led the India Out campaign, has no part in the current administration, and is in fact in the opposition now through having formed his own party.

He asserted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has repeatedly stated that he will continue working towards further strengthening ties between India and Maldives.

"The ties with India is very important to us, and we place high priority on it," Khaleel said, stating that the government rejects the India Out campaign.

Khaleel said that although the government irrefutably stands against the campaign, some within the government have made comments against this policy in times of high emotion.

However, he assured that this was not the government's stand, and stated that the fact that the President takes action against such persons is testament to the strong relations with India.

He stated that India's security is also Maldives' security, and as such, Maldives would provide complete cooperation in matter related to maintaining peace and stability in the Indian Ocean.
