Over a million in damages caused in recent heavy rains: NDMA

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said that the heavy rains in Maldives last week causes damages worth MVR 1.1 million.

In a post on social media platform X, NDMA said that by the end of November, they had received reports of damage due to rain from 10 islands. Requests have been made for assistance for varying levels of damage at 110 residences across these 10 islands, they said.

The highest level of damage was experienced in Lhaviyani Kurendhoo, which was most affected by the heavy rains last week. 97 houses from Kurendhoo reported damage.

Other islands from which NDMA has received reports of damage are Haa Dhaalu atoll Nellaidhoo, Noonu atoll Maafaru, Raa atoll Rasmaadhoo, Dhaalu atoll Ban'didhoo, Dhaalu atoll Hulhudheli, Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Madaveli, Seenu atoll Feydhoo, Seenu atoll Hulhudhoo and Seenu atoll MaradhooFeydhoo.

NDMA said that damage to structures of residences and household appliances come up to a cost of MVR 1.1 million.

NDMA said that they had gauged the damages sustained, and proposed to provide aid to overcome damages caused in accordance with the regulations.
