Landaa Giraavaru, run by Four Seasons Resorts, commenced generation of renewable energy via their on-island solar power system.

Comprising of 3,102 panels and 5,380 spans installed in the entirety of the staff quarters, this is the largest solar power system established in any resort of Maldives.

The solar power system can generate 900,000 to 1.1 million kilowatts of energy per hour, and store 250,000 to 300,000 litres of diesel.

Moreover, the system can power 103 rooms and villas of the resort, as well as charge their environmentally friendly golf car 82,000 times within the span of an year.

Regional Vice President of Four Seasons Resorts, Armando Kraenzlin, stated that their resorts took initiative in environmental projects, as Landaa Giraavaru is located in the UNESCO world biosphere reserve in Baa Atoll.

Landaa Giraavaru resort, which opened in 2006, has reduced their use of plastic significantly, by replacing plastic straws with paper straws and opting for reusable bottles instead of single-use plastic bottles.
