The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has won first in the State-owned Enterprises (SOE) category of the Maldives Expo 2026.

During last night's awards ceremony of the Maldives Expo 2026, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed presented the award to HDC. Director of Marketing and Public Relations Malsha Shareef received the award on behalf of HDC.

HDC submitted a model of the boat used for travel when Hulhumale' was being developed, a model of the dredger used to reclaim the Hulhumale' Phase 1 and a model of the newly introduced smart streetlights in Hulhumale'.

The model of the boat submitted to the expo is the only one of its kind and was used to transport people and goods between Male' and Hulhumale' when Huhumale' was being built.

The model of the dredger that was submitted was the "Amazon", a dredger acquired by the Maldivian government in 2003 from "Dredging International" and brought to Maldives, used to reclaim Hulhumale Phase 1.

The "Amazon" dredger played an important role in quickly reclaiming land for Hulhumale' Phase 1, completing that project in 6 months, with HDC stating the dredger was revolutionary for its time.

The company said they submitted the model to the expo in order to showcase the finer details of the important parts of the "Amazon"

Additionally, the model of the smart streetlight was designed so that it can be controlled from a distance, with it having the ability to change the intensity of the light by itself, and immediately being able to identify any issues the system may face. Because of this system, HDC said electricity expenditure will decrease and each individual light can be checked to expedite solving any issues.

All of the models submitted by HDC to the expo were prepared by HDC employees.

Maldives Expo 2026 will begin this evening at Hulhumale' Central Park and will conclude on Monday.

More than 4,400 items submitted by 600 participants will be seen during the expo.
