Voting for the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2026 closes on 30 October, with the Maldives aiming to win the title of World’s Leading Destination for the seventh consecutive year.
Visit Maldives is seeking to extend the country’s winning streak after the Maldives secured nominations in five global categories following its success at the WTA’s regional awards.
Voting is open until 30 October. Voters can participate through the official World Travel Awards website by registering, selecting the “World” category and voting in the nominated categories.
The Maldives has been nominated for the following awards:
- World’s Leading Destination
- World’s Leading Dive Destination
- World’s Leading Green Destination
- World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination
- World’s Leading Tourist Board, for Visit Maldives Corporation
The nominations follow Maldives achievements at the World Travel Awards’ Asia, Oceania and Indian Ocean regional gala, held recently at CROSSROADS Maldives.
Maldives has won the World’s Leading Destination title for six consecutive years, supported by its beaches, clear waters and marine life, as well as the work of tourism and hospitality professionals across the country.
Visit Maldives said securing the title for a seventh year would further strengthen the country’s profile and reputation in the global tourism industry.
Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards recognise excellence across the travel and tourism industry. Winners are determined through votes from industry professionals and the public.
