Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) is making final preparations for the third MIB Guest House Symposium 2026 and the inaugural MIB Guest House Awards, to be held on Thursday at Barcelo Nasandhura.
This year’s symposium will be held under the theme “Beyond the Stay: Building the Guest House of Tomorrow”.
Guest house owners and operators, tourism industry leaders and other key stakeholders are expected to gather to exchange ideas, explore business opportunities and discuss the future of the Maldives’ guest house sector.
Organized annually by MIB, the symposium provides a platform to discuss challenges facing the industry, share practical experiences and explore ways to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of guest houses across the islands.
This year’s keynote speaker is international speaker, online business strategist and author Kiruba Shankar. He has delivered more than 700 speeches in 24 countries and has extensive experience in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, online reputation management and business growth.
His keynote address will examine how guest house operators can adopt innovative approaches to expand their businesses in an evolving digital tourism market.
The programme will also include a panel discussion on key issues shaping the sector’s future.
The event will introduce the MIB Guest House Awards 2026, an initiative to recognize achievements and service excellence in the Maldives’ guest house industry.
The awards will recognize guest houses, individuals and islands for their contributions to hospitality, innovation, Maldivian experiences, sustainability and social benefits.
MIB said the awards aim to encourage higher service standards, promote sustainable tourism practices and recognize those driving the sector’s development.
Crowe Maldives has been appointed as an independent partner to evaluate the awards and help ensure a fair assessment process.
MIB said holding the symposium and awards together would create opportunities to share knowledge and experience while recognising those contributing to the growth of guest house tourism in the Maldives.
