National airline Maldivian has announced they are seeking a company that can bring two Airbus planes for Maldivian.

Parent company Island Aviation said companies that are interested in submitting a proposal to bring two Airbus A220-300 trademark aircraft should do so before 28th October.

Since 2012, Maldivian have been using Airbus A320 trademark aircraft for long distance international destinations. However, the company said they decided to change to Airbus A220 trademark aircraft in order to modernize the company's fleet.

The company stated the new planes will expedite their work, make their efforts more well-rounded and will prove to be convenient for passengers.

The first aircraft must be brought by Q4 2027 and the second aircraft must be brought by Q1 2028.

Maldivian offers flights to 18 local destinations.

The company currently uses two ATR 600-72 aircraft, three ATR 600-42 aircraft, seven DHC-300-8 trademark aircraft and DHC-200-8 aircraft for the operations.

While Maldivian has announced they are seeking a company that can bring them trademark Airbus planes, the A320 aircraft they currently use was brought to Maldives on 6th January 2025. The plane was used to begin flights to Australia.
