EyeCare Hospital participated in the "Happiness of Senior Citizens" (Iss Rahvehinge Ufaa) a community initiative by the Villimale' Police on Friday to mark the International Day of Older Persons.
A team from EyeCare provided eye screening services to senior citizens in Villmale' during the event held in recognition of elderly people and to improve their well-being. It served as a valuable opportunity to foster community connections and to inform everyone on the importance of regular eye checkups as people grow older, said EyeCare.
They also said that maintaining healthy eyesight will aid senior citizens with them being able to do things independently, going about their daily routines easily and spending time with their families making happy memories. And so, the hospital said paying attention to the health of their eyesight is quite important in improving their quality of life.
Eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular tears occurring in senior citizens are much higher than the rest of the population. Those who have diabetes need to pay special attention to their eye health as well.
As some eye conditions do not have any symptoms in the early stages and progress rapidly and even though sight may not be impacted, it is important to do regular eye checkups.
EyeCare said that the activity arranged by the Villimale' Police is important to the community. They also said that they will continue to increase awareness on eye health with such a community medium and will continue to offer their cooperation in raising awareness.
