A cataract surgery and eye camp held at Dr Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo has concluded successfully.
The three-day camp, held from September 26 to 28, aimed to improve access to eye care and cataract surgery services on the island.
Eye Care Hospital and Dr Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital participated in the camp, which was organized by Aged Care Maldives and Atmosphere Foundation. Dr Arjun Malla, a specialist in pediatric ophthalmology and cataract surgery at Eye Care Hospital, performed the surgeries.
The clinical team at Dr Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital also supported the camp by providing facilities and other assistance.
Nine elderly people successfully underwent cataract surgery during the camp. Consultation and vision-testing services were also provided to pre-registered patients and members of the public.
Patients who underwent surgery were provided with free post-operative instructions and medication.
Eye Care Hospital said the camp provided many people with an opportunity to undergo cataract surgery on the island.
The hospital said it would continue working with other organizations to provide quality eye care services across the Maldives.
