The "Maldives Guest Information System" (MGIS) that has been inaugurated by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has made it possible to view the information of all tourists that come to Maldives in one place, with a central system that connects all state financial administrations having been established, said Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Hassan Zareer.

During the inauguration ceremony of MGIS, Minister Zareer said as tourism is the main sector of the Maldivian economy, information from the industry is used by the government and various state administrations. He said the system will be a major convenience for the efforts of relevant state institutions that monitor such information.

The minister went on to say that the inauguration of MGIS is an important goal that has been achieved under the digital vision of Maldives 2.0, a government policy meant to strengthen state operations with the aid of modern technology.

Zareer said advancements are being seen in the work done by MIRA because of the system, and that MIRA will continue being an institution that works to establish an effortless tax system.

Due to this system, the minister said active businesses in the tourism industry will see great benefits, specifically guesthouses that do not have a private property management system, with businesses being able to use the platform to monitor tourist information.
