The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has officially inaugurated the "Maldives Guest Information System" (MGIS), specifically meant for tax payers.

The system was inaugurated by the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Hassan Zareer.

With the inauguration of the system, all companies registered for Green Tax will be able to submit information on tourists who come for tourist establishments.

MIRA stated that once information is submitted via the system, the information required to be submitted to the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation will be deemed submitted as well. MIRA went on to say that due to the system, tourist facilities that need to fulfill their information submission obligations will find it extremely convenient. The authority said once MGIS and tourist facility systems are integrated, any manual work in submitting information will come to an end.

Even though the system is open to all parties, MIRA is conducting on-boarding activities toward tax payers in two phases. Resorts, hotels and guesthouses with more than 50 beds will need to use the system for reporting in from November 2026 onward. Other companies that have registered for Green Tax will need to start reporting via the system from 1st January 2027.

While the system has been inaugurated, MIRA said Green Tax statement submissions deadlines and payment deadlines will remain the same. MIRAconnect will need to be utilized in submitting Green Tax returns and payments, same as before. However, after reporting information to the new system, there will be no need to upload the Green Tax statement for that period and additional information sheets. Instead, MIRA said the information will be pre-filled into the Green Tax statement when submitting the statement.
