The Bangladesh High Commission and Mianz College's School of Agriculture have signed an agreement for the protection of Maldives' environment, making the nation greener, becoming more informed about climate change and to offer cooperation in teaching about agriculture.
The main purpose of the agreement is to conduct a study on the identifying the various types of trees from Bangladesh that can be appropriate for Maldives' soil and weather, and to establish a framework that can revive the greenery in Maldives. Under this initiative, the provision of seeds, planting of trees, reviving trees and looking after them will be done by the Bangladesh High Commission in Maldives at Mianz College's nursery facilities.
At the signing ceremony between Mianz College and the Bangladesh High Commission, Mianz College CEO and Chairman Ahmed Mottaki said that Bangladesh is well-versed in agriculture, and is a nation that has important information regarding agriculture and is experienced in it. He also said this agreement will result in important information for cultivating agriculture in Maldives.
He went on to say that the seeds that were gifted by Bangladesh to the Maldivian government are trees similar to Maldives that are planted and cultivated in various environments. He also said that at the college's nursery, the seeds will be planted, trees will be cultivated, and studies will be conducted on how the trees are planted, with it being taught as well.
During the signing ceremony, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives Dr. MD Nazmul Islam said that this effort is an important part of the Bangladesh-Maldives Green Initiative. This is the initial 20,000 seeds Bangladesh will be gifting from various trees, and it is an important effort in environmental protection and sustainable development, said Dr. Islam.
Arrangements have been made where the seeds given from Bangladesh to Mianz College will be planted, the trees will be grown to the adequate size and given back to the High Commission of Bangladesh every three months at the most. After that, the commission will gift the trees to the Maldivian government.
These are the trees Bangladesh will be gifting to the Maldivian government's 5 Million Tree Project.
