Ooredoo Maldives has conducted a Digital Literacy and Scam Awareness Session for senior citizens, with the Maldives Police Service lending their expertise.

The sessions were held at Israhvehinge Naadhee in Male' and Hulhumale'. 

At the session, information was shared on how to identify common scams and use digital services more safely and confidently, Ooredoo said. 

The rising prevalence of smartphone use, digital payments and other online services has also led to increased risks of scams and fraudulent communications, particularly for those who are less familiar with evolving digital threats. 

Taking this into consideration, Ooredoo said that they organized these sessions to provide senior citizens with practical knowledge to better protect themselves online, and to ensure safety for everyone in an increasingly digital society. 

Ooredoo said that one of the main areas of focus in the programme was scam awareness. Common types of scams were explained, including fraudulent calls and messages, phishing links, impersonation attempts and requests for sensitive financial or personal information. 

Also covered was the importance of protecting passwords, OTPs, banking information and other personal details, as well as steps to take when faced with suspicious communications. 

Those attending the sessions were also given the chance to ask questions from Ooredoo representatives and police to clarify any doubts and receive hands-on support, Ooredoo said. 

Ooredoo has a continuing relationship with Israhvehinge Naadhee, supporting initiatives for senior citizens since 2018.
