Statistics show that MVR 273 million has been spent on housing projects from this year's budget so far.
Figures from the Ministry of Finance show that 25 percent of the amount allocated in the budget for housing projects was spent during the past nine months. MVR 1.4 billion has been allocated in the budget for housing projects.
During this period last year, MVR 131 million had been spent on housing projects.
A total of MVR 8.3 billion has been allocated for PSIP projects in this year's budget. Out of that, 15 percent has been dedicated to housing projects.
Outside of the budget, the government is also carrying out housing projects through state-owned enterprises. Accordingly, the work of building flats in Hulhumalé is being carried out through BML. The practical work of that housing project, which was awarded to five contractors to build 3,260 flats, commenced in January of this year.
The budget book specified that giving priority to housing projects, education, and health sector projects are the main focuses for this year.
So far this year, MVR 3.9 billion has been spent from the budget on PSIP projects. During this period last year, MVR 5.5 billion was spent on PSIP projects.
