The Bank of Maldives (BML) has set a world record in snorkeling for the most people to have snorkeled at the same time, in order to raise awareness in marine ecosystem protection.
The attempt was held at Niva Kurumba Maldives, with 314 people participating to set the record. It included BML staff, Niva Kurumba Maldives management and staff, and tourists who were at the resort on holiday.
The record was set by having the highest number of people possible snorkel in one place at the same time.
The official Guinness World Records certificate was awarded after assuring the standards that were set for BML's record-breaking attempt. The certificate was presented to BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef and Niva Kurumba Maldives General Manager Morten Junior.

The bank said that this was an important event that was a part of their environment protection efforts under their ENV POS program. The program was created so that a portion of the revenue generated via every transaction from BML's POS machines is spent on various environment projects.
BML continues to collaborate with organizations under the program such as Parley Maldives and Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA) in important efforts, such as sending plastic waste in the ocean to other countries for recycling purposes, and protecting Maldives' environment and marine ecosystem for the coming generations.
BML also said the bank's aim is to show the importance of protecting Maldives' marine life, which the country's life and economy is dependent on, and to encourage individuals and the community to actively participate in such national efforts.
