Abdulla Yasir has been appointed as the new managing director of Visit Maldives.

Yasir, who is from Feydhoo in Addu City, has previously worked in the tourism sector. He holds a master’s degree in business administration.

Yasir was appointed following the resignation of Ibrahim Shiuree on Monday. Shiuree reportedly resigned after the government asked him to step down.

Shiuree took over as managing director of Visit Maldives, formerly known as the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), on 13 June 2024.

Visit Maldives conducts campaigns to promote the Maldives as a tourist destination and participates in international tourism fairs.

The company recorded a profit of MVR17 million last year, a 37 percent decline from the previous year. Its revenue increased by 60% to MVR36 million.

The decline in profit was attributed to increased expenses, according to the company’s financial results.

Government grants account for about 90 percent of Visit Maldives’ expenditure. The company received MVR154 million from the state budget over the past two years.

Visit Maldives recorded a loss of MVR18 million in 2023.
