Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) has opened nominations for the Guesthouse Tourism Champion Island Award, a new category introduced as part of the MIB Guest House Awards 2026.

The award recognizes guesthouses and islands that have taken steps to promote local tourism in a sustainable manner.

The judging criteria include collaboration between island councils, residents and businesses; efforts to promote the island; infrastructure development; preservation of the island's natural environment; and the provision of a safe and enjoyable experience for tourists.

Islands applying for the award must have at least 50 operational guesthouse rooms at the time of application.

The MIB Guest House Awards will recognize 12 winners across three categories: eight awards for guesthouses, three awards for individuals working in the tourism industry, and one Island Award for the most outstanding island.

Crowe Maldives Advisory will serve as an independent third party to ensure the awards' evaluation process is conducted fairly, MIB said.

The bank said the awards aim to improve the quality of local tourism in the Maldives, encourage innovative and sustainable tourism services, and recognize excellence in Maldivian hospitality.

Applications close on August 31. Applications can be submitted via https://mib.com.mv/guesthouseaward.
