National airline Maldivian has signed an agreement with De Havilland Canada to bring two Twin Otter Classic 300-G's to Maldives.

Island Aviation will be bringing a DHC 6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G airplane.

Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas signed on behalf of Maldivian, with Regional Vice President, Sales, Asia Pacific and Middle East Yogesh Garg signing on behalf of De Havilland Canada.

This is the first time Maldives, the nation that makes the most use out of Twin Otter airplanes, has ordered a Twin Otter Classic 300-G model.

Maldivian said the Twin Otter airplane is the most notable craft that has been used for transport from Male' to resorts, flying tourists to various islands and as the backbone of tourism for the past 10 years. They have said previously that with the Classic 300-G, Maldivian seaplane operations will be strengthened with flying tourists to areas that do not have runways on land.

The Classic 300-G is an airplane that has been used in Maldivian operations to takeoff and land on shorter runways and specifically built as such, with modernized avionics. As the weight of the craft has been decreased, there is now more space for tourists and luggage.

The Twin Otter has more than 1,000 of its planes across the globe and has millions of hours in flight time, and is the most notable utility craft in the world that is in use in environments such as the Arctic all the way to Maldives. And as Maldives is the country that makes use of these planes the most, it has become the flight standard for safety and trust.

Maldivian's fleet has 25 airplanes. This includes a A330-200 plane, an Airbus A320, five ATR's, seven Dash 8's and 11 DHC Twin Otters.
