Velana International Airport (VIA) has set a new record through handling 2,000 tonnes of air cargo in July. 

VIA operator MACL said that this is the largest amount of cargo managed in a single month to date. MACL added that this is a significant advancement through sea-to-air and air-to-air operations. 

During this period, the total amount of transshipment cargo has exceeded 2000 tonnes per month. 

In July, sea-to-air services handled 621 tonnes of cargo. This is the largest amount managed in a single month since the service was first introduced. 

MACL said that these advancements are testament to the fact that VIA, while it connects Asia, Europe and other major global markets, is establishing itself as a key logistics hub. 

VIA recently acted as an intermediary in cargo transfers from Cambodia to France, and are doing the same for other destinations as well.
