August 1 sees Ooredoo Maldives celebrating 21 years of service, contributing to revolutionary advances in the way Maldivians connect, communicate, work and live.

Ooredoo, Maldives' first private telecom provider, launched in 2005 and has since grown into a household name synonymous with innovation, technology and reliability.

Ooredoo brought to Maldives its first 3G, 4G and 5G networks and has invested in world-class submarine cable systems, digital financial services, AI-powered customer experiences, and global digital partnerships.

Ooredoo said its role now goes well beyond basic connectivity, noting that under its Digital Maldives vision, the company is working to equip individuals, businesses, entrepreneurs and communities with technologies that open new opportunities, support economic grown, and enhance daily life.

"As we celebrate 21 years in the Maldives, we celebrate the trust our customers have placed in us and the incredible journey we have shared together. Every milestone we have achieved has been made possible by the people of the Maldives, our partners, and our dedicated employees. While we are proud of what we have accomplished together, our focus remains firmly on the future as we continue building a smarter, safer, and more inclusive Digital Maldives powered by innovation," said Shadi Qawasmi, CEO and Managing Director of Ooredoo Maldives.

Truecaller Premium

Ooredoo marked the anniversary with the introduction of Truecaller Premium, now offered through Ooredoo's billing system.

The company said customers can subscribe directly and have charges added to their Ooredoo account, removing the need for separate payment methods.

With spam, unwanted calls and phone scams on the rise worldwide, Ooredoo said Truecaller Premium gives users enhanced protection and added features, including advanced spam and scam filters, profile view insights, Incognito Mode, contact requests, and ad-free interface and Premium verification badge.

Ooredoo also announced the ChildSafe Parental Control service for eligible 5G AirFibre customers as part of its efforts to promote a safer digital environment for families.

The service allows parents to manage internet access and make use of parental control features on supported home broadband devices to create safer online spaces for children.

The service is offered free of charge throughout August this year in celebration of Ooredoo's 21st anniversary, giving families an opportunity to try the features at no cost.
