Bank of Maldives (BML) provided USD 478 million in foreign currency support to businesses and individuals during the first six months of this year.
BML said it sold USD 166 million during the period to facilitate international money transfers through telegraphic transfers (TT).
This included 311,722 remittance transactions sent overseas, marking a 20 percent increase compared with the same period last year.
BML processed 261,168 remittance transactions during the first six months of last year.
The bank also provided USD 226 million for overseas transactions made using credit and debit cards during the first half of the year, a 29 percent increase compared with the same period in 2025.
During the first six months of last year, BML provided USD 175 million for foreign transactions through credit and debit cards.
BML said it supplied an average of USD 80 million per month in foreign currency support over the past six months, representing a 30 percent increase compared with last year.
In 2025, BML sold more than USD 660 million for various purposes, including USD 390 million for credit and debit card transactions related to consumer spending.
