Finland International School has been officially introduced in the Maldives.

World-renowned Finland International School is managed under the University of Jyväskylä of Finland and is operated by Educluster Finland. EduConnect Private Limited under Islanders Education will operate this school in the Maldives. The two companies signed an agreement at a ceremony held at Hotel Jen to introduce the Finland International School in the Maldives.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of EduConnect, Ahmed Adli Rasheed, stated that the model of education adapted by the Finland International School is trusted worldwide and has attained many prestigious accomplishments internationally.

“We will initially start with Finnish teachers but I don’t believe that the venture would be a success without training locals in accordance to the Finland International School’s standards. So we will definitely train and employ locals in the same level as Finnish teachers in regard to work and pay scale.”

He also revealed that work was already underway to convert one of the primary schools operated under the Islander’s umbrella in capital Male’ to a Finland International School that is to be opened next year. Islander’s Education also signed an agreement to construct a Finland International School in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’ that is to be completed by 2020; this agreement is valid for 25 years.

“We plan to start with lower grades and work our way up to higher classes. The curriculum would be compiled by the Finland International School to fit the Maldives and will offer a variety of unique subjects.”

Adli also assured that when compiling the curriculum, input from the parents will be considered and the fee structure would not be higher than the current market prices.

Islanders Education is currently operating Billabong High International School and Kangaroo Kids School in the Maldives, the successes of which have earned the company the trust of Maldivian parents.

The opening of Finland International School would mark the first Finnish school to be opened in this region. EduCluster Finland is mandated by Finland Export Agency to expand its education system to other countries. The company is currently managing an international school in Doha, Qatar in conjunction with the country’s royal family and government.

Finland is a country famed for its developed education system. Educational experts say that Finland ranks ahead of first world countries such as the US and UK with regards to its education sector.
