As of now this year, the State has received MVR 439 million as free aid. 

According to data shared by the Finance Ministry, MVR 374 million was included in the budget as free aid. Hence, the amount received now as free aid has exceeded the projected amount by 17 percent. 

As per the budget, grants were estimated at figures included as free aid for various projects, coming to MVR 324 million. No amount was listed as cash grants. 

Although last year's projection for free aid was listed as MVR 2.6 billion, only MVR 400 million had been received by year end. This included MVR 34 million as cash grant and MVR 339 million as project grants. 

With this, the amount of free aid received so far this year is higher than total free aid received last year. 

The budget estimates that in the long term, the amount of free aid received by the country will see a decrease. It states that Maldives will see approximately MVR 300 million in free aid over the next two years as well. 

In 2021, 2022, and 2023, Maldives received over MVR 1 billion as free aid.
