Villa College's Faculty of Educational Studies have introduced three new programs in building teachers to specialize in teaching at the secondary and higher secondary education levels.

Villa College stated the three programs were designed specifically for training teachers in mathematics and two other subjects. The three programs at an MNQF Level 7 that have been introduced are: 

Villa College went on to say that the requirement for the number of teachers who are capable in specifically teaching subjects such as mathematics, accounting, physics and computer science have increased. And so, the college said the three programs are designed so that teachers can be trained in two subjects at the same time.

Villa College said the programs were designed with the subject knowledge and teaching skills in mind, and along with teaching theories, different techniques and strategies, the course will teach how technology and AI can be used to conduct lessons.

Additionally, Villa College said that with skills to develop a higher level of thinking and communication skills, the programs will encourage teaching by looking at the differences between students, and learning and teaching with reflective teaching. The college also said the programs will allow familiarization regarding knowledge and skills in conducting tasks in a sustainable manner.

Bachelor of Teaching in Mathematics and Accounting

The course includes main mathematical subjects such as calculus, algebra, statistics and mechanics, along with subjects related to the accounting industry such as Principle of Accounting, Introduction to Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Financial Reporting, Advanced Management Accounting, Strategic Corporate Reporting. Special pedagogy modules such as "Teaching and Learning Mathematics" and Teaching and Learning Accounting" are also included.

Bachelor of Teaching in Mathematics and Physics

The course includes main mathematical subjects along with important subjects related to the physics industry such as Introduction to Fundamentals of Physics, Dynamics and Newtonian Law, Planetary Motion, Optics and Sound, Electricity and Magnetism, Particle Physics and Relativity, Thermodynamics, and Matter and Astrophysics. The "Teaching and Learning Mathematics" and "Teaching and Learning Physics" modules will also be included in the program, designed to learn laboratory skills and technical skills in physics.

Bachelor of Teaching in Mathematics and Computer Science

The course includes main mathematical subjects along with important subjects related to the computer science industry such as Database Management Systems, Introduction to Networks, Artificial Intelligence for Cyber Security, Human Computer Interaction, Software Engineering Principles and Secure Software Development. The "Teaching and Learning Mathematics" and "Teaching and Learning Computer Science" subjects are also included as special pedagogy modules.

The programs last three years and require college attendance. An "Advanced Diploma of Teaching" certificate will be acquired upon completing the second year of the program. The program will also include two "Teaching Practical" parts, which will provide the opportunity to gain experience at schools.

Regarding the program, the Dean of the Faculty of Educational Studies Abdul Sattar Gasim said the three programs are a crucial step in preparing specialized teachers for subjects necessary in Maldivian schools. He also said that with the establishment of capable teachers in subjects such as mathematics, accounting, physics and computer science, the quality of teaching in the secondary and higher secondary stages will be strengthened even further.

Villa College's Vice Rector Dr. Ali Najib commented on the three newly introduced programs, stating it is an important part of Villa College's efforts in increasing opportunities in trainign teachers. He also said facilitating quality opportunities for Maldivian students in Maldives is an important aim of the college.
