Registration for the Dhiraagu Male' Open Swimming Competition, the Maldives' largest open water swimming event, will close on 31 July.

Organized by Swim Maldives, the competition will be held on 21 and 22 August 2026 at Rasfannu.

The event aims to promote open water swimming, encourage greater participation in the sport and raise awareness of the importance of protecting the Maldives' marine environment.

Participants can register for the 1km, 500m and 250m race categories. This year's event will also introduce a new 500m team relay, giving friends, families and swimming clubs the opportunity to compete together.

Online registration is open until 31 July through the Swim Maldives website.

Last year's competition attracted 350 swimmers from across the Maldives, with more than 340 participants successfully completing their races. Competitors ranged in age from six to 65, highlighting the event's broad appeal and the growing popularity of open water swimming in the country.

Dhiraagu said it remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen community engagement and create more opportunities for people across Maldives to participate in sports and recreational activities.
