Alia has launched the 12th edition of its Boat Operators Training Programme in collaboration with the Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT).

Held annually, the programme combines classroom instruction and practical training to equip boat captains with the knowledge and skills needed to safely operate vessels powered by Yamaha outboard engines.

Participants will receive training in fire prevention and emergency response, first aid, vessel safety, engine operation and maintenance. The programme also covers procedures for restarting engines following unexpected breakdowns at sea.

Speaking at the launch ceremony held at Meerumaa Hall, Alia General Manager Ahmed Saeed highlighted the importance of comprehensive training for boat operators.

He said captains are responsible for the safety of passengers and crew and must be prepared to respond effectively to emergencies at sea.

According to Saeed, the programme also provides an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and learn from one another.

Gulf Craft Managing Director Captain CR Rejith said the training was particularly important in the Maldives, where marine transport plays a vital role in connecting islands across a vast maritime area.

He described the programme as a valuable initiative that contributes to safer travel at sea.

This year's programme has enrolled 48 boat captains from resorts, marine transport operators and government agencies.

The three-day course includes both theoretical and practical components and forms part of Alia's broader efforts to promote maritime safety in the Maldives.

Alia is the authorized distributor of Yamaha outboard engines in the Maldives and regularly conducts training programmes in collaboration with Yamaha.
