Under the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), a system meant to offer aid with ease to those who are in need the most, MVR 12 billion has been set aside for four agencies within the state budget.
As per information from the Finance Ministry, the four agencies are the Education Ministry, Health Ministry, National Social Protection Agency and Family Protection Authority.
GESI is a pilot project, with its aim in determining the budget being to facilitate budget expenditure by the government in the most fair way possible to those who are most in need. The budget will identify expenditure for the elderly, women, children, people with special needs, households that require the most aid and those who live in islands in areas without adequate resources, with the budget being spent specifically on them.
GESI budgeting will include activities and programs for special groups within the budget, with budgeting beginning from next year onward. The Finance Ministry will offer the four agencies the opportunity to budget activities under GESI within the state budget from 2027 to 2029.
The yearly state budget is to be presented before the end of October.
