Admission for Grade 1 students at Finland International School and Billabong High International School for the 2027 academic year starting in January has been opened on their respective websites.

Principal Toni Kortelainen of the Finland International School, which has been operating out of the same building as Kangaroo Kids International Preschool in Male' since 2019, said he has noticed that the thing that is most favored amongst parents of the school is the change to the school's co-curriculum according to Maldivian customs and traditions. He also said it is one of the reasons demand for the school has increased, along with it being a reason for parental support as well.

"Our curriculum and teaching is built upon students thinking for themselves and conducting their own research, and by giving them information and teaching how things work, along with them being given total responsibility in their studies, more so than taking in information," said Kortelainen.

Kortelainen went on to say that instead of fostering competition in the school, they identify skills specific to each child, work to develop the skill and work to increase their participation. He also said along with the usual subjects that are taught, craft classes conducted in the craft room that has various woodworking equipment and home economics classes are popular among students.

Billabong High International School, which has opened admission for Grade 1, is also popular among parents.

School Principal Ibrahim Shaheem stated one of the most special things about the school is their curriculum.

"Most of the students who attend Grade 1 in our school come from Kangaroo Kids Preschool. A lot of parents highlight the opportunity that their children can continue with their preschool curriculum once they move to primary school," said Shaheem.

According to Shaheem, the school places special attention upon the current students in SKG when they begin their classes Grade 1 in developing their basic skills.

"In every difficult situation we face, we place top priority on the students' well-being and the right to receive an education. We always pay attention in increasing the students' social, mental and physical well-being with various school activities in shaping learning," as Shaheem said.

Finland School and Billabong School said there is competition in securing spots for Grade 1 regarding students who complete SKG every year. And so, both schools said that those who apply faster stand a better chance of securing a slot.
