Budget statistics have shown that there has been a significant increase from government aid in lowering prices for food stuff and electricity.

According to Budget 2025, there has been an increase to 300 percent in lowering food prices, with government aid for lowering electricity prices having seen an increase to 120 percent.

When last year's budget was passed, MVR 93 million was set aside to reduce food  prices. However, MVR 384 million was spent by the end of the year.

In order to find a solution to fruits and vegetables seeing a high increase in their prices last year, the government increased the amount of basic food items being sold via STO.

STO has begun selling 23 basic food items. This includes 10 types of vegetables, 10 types of fruits, lentils, coconuts and chicken eggs.

Vegetables brought in by STO includes onion, ginger, carrot, eggplant, sweet potato, potato, cabbage, pumpkin, spinach and garlic. Fruits sold by STO include banana, apple, orange, lemon, passion fruit, mango, papaya, watermelon, chilli and grapes.

Last year's budget set aside MVR 379 million to lower electricity prices. However, MVR 834 million was spent by the end of the year. The government provides aid to lower electricity costs via Fenaka and STELCO.

Fuel expenditure saw three times the increase compared to the amount that was set aside in the budget last year, with the state spending MVR 1.4 billion on fuel imports.
