With the introduction of PayPal payment receiving services in the Maldives through m-Faisaa, customers can now receive international payments without incurring additional transfer charges from Ooredoo, according to the company.

Ooredoo said customers receiving funds through PayPal currently pay only PayPal’s standard transaction fee, while transfers from PayPal to m-Faisaa are not subject to any additional charges from the telecom operator.

Under the current fee structure, PayPal charges a fee of USD 1.50 plus 2 percent of the transaction amount received.

For example, a customer receiving a payment of USD 100 would pay a fee of USD 3.50 and receive USD 96.50 after deductions.

Ooredoo said the arrangement is intended to provide customers with a transparent pricing structure, allowing individuals and businesses to calculate accurately how much they will receive from international payments.

Ooredoo noted that the service could particularly benefit freelancers, entrepreneurs and small businesses that work with overseas clients, as well as individuals receiving funds from family members or other sources abroad.

According to Ooredoo, the ability to receive international payments through PayPal opens up new opportunities for Maldivians to participate in the global digital economy.

Potential users include freelancers providing services remotely, content creators earning income online, software developers, and small businesses serving international customers.

The company said that by not imposing additional transfer fees at this stage, it aims to reduce barriers for customers seeking access to international markets and payment networks.

Ooredoo added that affordable and transparent payment services are expected to play an increasingly important role in supporting entrepreneurship, expanding participation in digital commerce and facilitating foreign currency inflows through online economic activity.
