The largest open water swimming competition held in the Maldives, the "Dhiraagu Male' Open" swimming competition, has been scheduled to take place on August 21 and 22 at Rasfannu.
Organized by Swim Maldives, the objective of the "Dhiraagu Male' Open" swimming competition is to develop open water swimming in the Maldives, generate interest in the sport, and increase awareness on protecting the oceans of the Maldives.
In connection with the tournament, Dhiraagu's Director of Brand and Marketing Communications, Mirshan Hassan, stated that it is a pleasure for the company to announce the third edition of the "Dhiraagu Male' Open" swimming competition in partnership with Swim Maldives. He also noted that the main objective of providing support to such activities that include the participation of many individuals is to facilitate sports opportunities for people of all age groups, promote healthy lifestyles, and pave the way to strengthen social connections through sports.
He stated that given the natural environment of the Maldives, learning to swim is highly important, and therefore, encouraging people to swim and supporting the development of water sports is something to which Dhiraagu gives great priority.
Regarding the competition, the President of Swim Maldives, Hussain Shameem, stated that through the success of the "Dhiraagu Male' Open" held last year and the "Oceanman Maldives" held for the first time in the country, a strong foundation has been laid to develop the sport in the Maldives. He also noted that this is just a beginning and the association stands ready to welcome more international and Maldivian swimmers to this year's competition compared to previous years.
"Our vision is to make Dhiraagu Male’ Open one of the most notable sports events held in the Maldives, include this tournament in the international swimming calendar, and make it an appealing competition that cannot be missed." he said.
The opportunity to register for the 1 kilometer, 500 meters, 250 meters, and the newly introduced 500 meters team relay category for this year has now been opened on Swim Maldives' website.
In the competition held last year, 350 swimmers from different parts of the Maldives participated, and more than 340 swimmers completed the race. This included swimmers between the ages of 5 and 65 years.
Dhiraagu continues to provide support to such activities that assist in promoting healthy lifestyles and social connections, and are organized to allow the participation of a large number of people.
