Visit Maldives' Chairperson Abdulla Giyas has stated that the greatest achievement of the past year was maintaining the Maldives as the world's most popular destination.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of Visit Maldives, he noted that significant efforts were made last year as well to bring advancements to the sector. Along with this, he stated that Visit Maldives' financial results were improved and revenue was increased.

"While the improvement in the company's financial results is a business advancement, our greatest achievement is maintaining the Maldives as the world's most popular destination and securing its benefits for the nation's economy," Giyas said.

Visit Maldives received a revenue of MVR 32.54 million as self-generated income last year. This revenue was achieved by increasing income through membership fees, international fairs, and roadshows, as well as publications. This is the highest revenue the company has received in the past eight years. However, Visit Maldives' profit decreased by 37 percent last year. The company received MVR 17 million last year.

Ninety percent of Visit Maldives' expenses are covered through government aid. Over the past two years, the company has been allocated MVR 154 million from the state budget.
