Meat and coffee see highest inflation during past year

While coffee prices saw an increase of 18.58 percent, meat saw a rise of 6.68 percent.

Prices of basic commodities in Maldives rose by 6.35 percent in May compared with the same month last year, with meat and coffee recording the steepest increases, according to data from the Maldives National Bureau of Statistics.

The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures show coffee prices increased by 18.58 percent compared to the previous year, making it the most significant rise among essential goods.

Meat prices rose by 6.68 percent over the same period.

Overall food prices increased by 6.37 percent, while gas and other fuel costs rose by 14.54 percent, according to the statistics agency.

Prices of hygiene products also recorded a smaller increase of 3.10 percent compared to the previous year.
