The Ministry of Finance and Treasury has opened bids to construct a runway, taxiway and an apron in the domestic airports that are to be developed in the islands of Shaviyani atoll Funadhoo and Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Maavaarulu.

In an announcement Sunday, the ministry stated that interested companies should include 5 percent of the project cost as bid security and performance security in the bid proposals. It also stated that 10 percent of the project cost would be released as an advance payment.

According to the announcement, the pre-bid meeting will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. and the proposed bid opening will be held on February 15.

While the bidding process is underway, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been reclaiming the land required for the airport development in Funadhoo. A total of 21 hectares of land will be reclaimed from the west of the island’s northern side for the development of the domestic airport.

Meanwhile the government had halted and terminated the airport development project in the island of Maavaarulu, which was awarded to Moving International.
