Domestic exports from Maldives has decreased by 54 percent by April this year.
Data shared by central bank Maldives Monetary Authority shows that goods worth USD 26 million have been recorded as domestic exports between January and April this year. This figure was at USD 56 million in the same period last year.
The highest amount of exports from Maldives goes to the Asia and Europe. Exports to Asia saw a 68 percent fall from last year, while exports to Europe also showed a decrease of 14 percent.
In the case of separate countries, Maldives mostly exports goods to Thailand and UK. Exports to Thailand in the first four months of 2026 show a year-on-year decrease of 74 percent, while exports to UK saw a 19 percent drop.
Exports to Sri Lanka, meanwhile, also dipped by 20 percent, and exports to Italy show a 19 percent decrease.
However, exports to USA increased by 174 percent in this period. However, this is a comparatively low share of total exports. Exports to Germany and France also increased in this timeframe. Maldives generally exports fisheries products to these countries.
Although domestic exports decreased, total exports including re-export showed a year-on-year increase. In the first four months, Maldives exported goods worth USD 204 million.
