Out of the tourists who have visited the Maldives so far this year, the number of tourists who visited resorts has dropped by 40,000, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism.

As indicated by the ministry's statistics, 660,000 tourists have visited Maldivian resorts so far this year. During the same period last year, 701,000 tourists visited resorts. This represents a six percent decline.

Concurrently, 70 percent of tourists arriving in the Maldives spend their holidays at resorts.

The decline in the number of tourists visiting resorts is attributed to a reduction in tourist arrivals to the Maldives in connection with the war in the Middle East.

The total number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives so far this year has decreased by 4.1 percent compared to the same period last year. So far this year, 950,000 tourists have arrived in the Maldives.

In addition to resorts, the number of tourists visiting guesthouses has also decreased. So far this year, 223,000 tourists have visited guesthouses in the Maldives. During the same period last year, 225,000 tourists arrived.

During the first two days of this month, approximately 7,000 tourists arrived in the Maldives, which is a decrease of nearly 21 percent compared to last year.

Following a significant drop in tourist arrivals to the Maldives starting from March, the number of incoming tourists began to stabilize last month. The month of May is traditionally a period when tourist arrivals to the Maldives via European and Middle Eastern routes decrease. In May, the highest number of tourists arrive in the Maldives from countries within the Asian region.
