Island Aviation is seeking a company to develop Dharavandhoo Airport's passenger terminal.

As per Island Aviation's announcement, both Maldivian and foreign contractors can apply for the project, with an Expression of Interest to be emailed by 4th June. If an international contractor is to apply, they must submit a Tax Clearance Certificate.

The project is to proceed under contractor financing.

The project is to be completed within 18 months of it starting. Island Aviation stated that before a contractor is selected, they will be prioritizing parties that have completed such projects or if they have completed projects worth more than MVR 50 million.

The terminal will see an expansion under the new project. Island Aviation said that they have decided to expand the terminal because of congestion due to an increase of tourists coming through the terminal.

While the terminal is to be expanded, it has been decided that a new lounge building will be established as well. Island Aviation's announcement reads that the project is to progress in such a way that there are no obstructions to the services being provided by the airport and that the company is to prepare plans on how they would go about it.

Dharavandhoo Airport was opened 14 years ago on 17th October 2012, with it being constructed by Coastline Hotels and Resorts. More than 8 flights land at the airport daily. Most people utilize the airport to reach the resorts and guesthouses in the region where they spend their vacations.
