Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC), with the support of Alia Investments, has opened the 'Reading Retreat' library at Salahuhdheen School.
The Reading Retreat library has the capacity of accommodating 150 students at a time, and offers more than a simple library experience.
The library features dedicated areas for various activities, such as:
- Dialogue Den: A discussion space designed for students to work on projects or interactive learning activities. The area features a TV, and encourages teamwork, communication and building confident presentation skills.
- Calm Cove: Provides a quiet environment for independent study or reading.
- Learning Loft: A soundproof multi-purpose learning space capable of accommodating a full class.
- Staff Studio: A workspace for teachers. It comes equipped with a kitchenette, allowing teachers and other staff to take short breaks.
The 'Reading Retreat' initiative is being positioned as a key investment in children's development, aimed at building skills that extend beyond the classroom, including creativity, critical thinking, communication, and a sustained interest in reading.
The project introduces purpose-built spaces that support both independent and group activities. ARC highlighted that it offers a model for modern school libraries that can be replicated across the country to enhance learning environments.
ARC extended its thanks to Alia Investments, the principal donor of the 'Reading Retreat' library project, for supporting the initiative. The organization also acknowledged contributors who donated books and materials, as well as the design team involved in developing the space.
ARC further expressed appreciation to the management of Salahuhdheen School for their partnership throughout the project.
